APC Chieftain Urges Governors to Ensure Proper Utilization of N260bn Primary Healthcare Revitalization Funds

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on the governors of Nigeria's 36 states to ensure the recently released N260 billion intervention funds for the revitalization of Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) are used appropriately.

In a statement released in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye emphasized the importance of the funds, which were allocated by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, on May 24. The funds aim to improve the state of PHCs nationwide, particularly as many states are grappling with the spread of cholera and other health challenges.

Oyintiloye praised President Bola Tinubu for the initiative, highlighting that the revitalization of PHCs is crucial at this time. However, he expressed concerns about potential mismanagement of the funds. "The only fear I have now is how this fund will not be diverted by the governors at this critical period of the cholera outbreak," Oyintiloye remarked. He stressed the necessity for proper monitoring to prevent the funds from being diverted and ensure PHCs receive the necessary equipment for disease treatment and management.

The APC chieftain also urged President Tinubu to implement strict measures to guarantee the effective utilization of the funds. "I commend the President for prioritizing the health of Nigerians with the release of N260 billion to revitalize the dilapidated PHCs in the country," he said, adding that the PHCs are currently in dire need of these improvements.

Oyintiloye called on governors to resist the temptation of diverting the funds and to focus on the intended revitalization projects. He underscored the dire condition of many PHCs and the critical need for the allocated funds to be used as intended.

In addition to the call for fiscal responsibility, Oyintiloye urged Nigerians to adopt better hygiene practices to help control the spread of cholera. He advocated for increased public awareness and education on the importance of regular handwashing with soap and water.

This call to action comes amid ongoing efforts by the federal government to enhance healthcare infrastructure and combat public health crises. As states begin to utilize the N260 billion for PHC revitalization, stakeholders will be watching closely to ensure that the funds are managed transparently and effectively to improve healthcare outcomes across Nigeria.
